Don't Be This Guy. See My Choices.

For my inaugural post on the inaugural day of the brand new decade, I've decided to reveal my pick on what I believe was the most phenomenal film of the "aughts" (2000-2009, for the slow-witted).

I realize this is a ridiculous undertaking and that my opinion on this is as qualified as my opinion on raising cattle is, yet my voice shall be heard, whether it be as loud as a whisper or as soft as a pin drop. I know my stuff, and you will like my pick. I'll make you like it.

I've narrowed it down to ten motion pictures. These sort of jumped spontaneously into my head, but, I figured, what comes to mind first is directly related to the impact the movie had on me. And so, the acclaimed joints and flicks are...

- The Departed...Scorcese and company kill it, an obvious must-see.

- The Dark Knight...Christopher Nolan, my word. Heath Ledger, my God. Batman on cinematic 'roids.

- Into The Wild...Individual talents and natural beauty cross paths. A story felt by all viewers.

- No Country For Old Men...Coen Brothers and Cormac McCarthy make quite the combination.

- The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King...Duh.

- Up...Just watched it; go see it. Now. Animation at its most touching, Pixar's best.

- City of God...Easily the best foreign film. Stark imagery and a great tale of the Brazilian slums.

- The Hurt Locker...Kathryn Bigelow makes the greatest and most intense war movie ever. Period.

- Almost Famous...Writing about rock music, what a dream Cameron Crowe had. He did a little better making this film.

- Juno...Charmed me from start to finish; its wit is infectious, just like its characters.

This list is so indefinite it could make your head spin. My choice might not be even in this crop I just briefly outlined. My movie of the decade will be what I decide has impacted me most on a personal and emotional level, and it will be the most entertaining film made in the last ten years. I haven't seen all of them and that fact pains me, but I'll tell you what I can. See you in 2010.

What Up, World Wide Web

So the blogging bug hit me hard, and I'm gonna be honest, it was because I watched Julie and Julia (a movie I recommend, Streep dominates) with the family on Christmas Day. Amy Adams plays some girl who blogs while she cooks Meryl Streep's cookbook yadda yadda yadda; it's all very cute. So here's my version. Joints and Flicks. It's a working title, so just deal with it for now. And joints as in Spike Lee's joints? Come on, now. What I'll do, starting January 1st, 2010, is talk about a movie I saw recently, thought about recently, or just wanted to talk about, and I'll do it on a daily basis. There'll be other things involved, mainly created for pure fun or smut, but all in all, its worth a view if you want to become a little more cinema savvy. I'll rate the film with both logic and creativity; my points and arguments should force you to agree with my opinion. That's the idea at least. Start the new decade with a blog that's literally necessary for your life. Just kidding. But, seriously.
